The new "dirty dozen" list of produce. If you are wondering, like I am, about what to eat because of all the toxic chemicals, GMOs, unsanitary food storage facilities that house foods before they get to the supermarkets, then you are probably as freaked out as I am finding myself to be.   A food storage facility in the Sacramento area was "busted" very recently, and it's filthy condition was shown on local TV.  The facility is next door to a toxic chemical site.  Debris was strewn everywhere on the property.
"A new report published by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) might make you re-think that "apple a day" -- if it's conventionally grown using pesticides.
According to the group's annual "dirty dozen" list of fruits and vegetables with the highest pesticide residues, apples ranked number one as the most-contaminated item, up from number four last year.
Other changes from the 2010 findings: this year, cherries dropped off the list, and lettuce, previously absent, now appears at number 11. The EWG uses data compiled by the USDA to produce these findings."

The EWG points out that if consumers simply chose their daily recommended five servings of fruit and vegetables from the least contaminated list over five from the dirty dozen, they would reduce the amount of pesticides ingested by 92% - without having to shell out extra money for organics.

Conventional farmers use an arsenal of pesticides to protect their crops from insects, bacteria, rodents, molds, and fungi. These substances can end up in the food supply. Washing and peeling fruit and vegetables can lower pesticide residues, but not necessarily. When the USDA tests for pesticides, they wash and peel fruit the same way a typical consumer would.
The National Institute of Environmental Health Servicesacknowledges that scientists do not have a full understanding of the health risks associated with exposure to agricultural pesticide residues through food, soil, water, or air. They also report that farmers who use pesticides experience an increase in neurological symptoms and that the harmful effects on children are greater than on adults.
Recent studies indicate that pregnant women should also be careful of their exposure to pesticides. Three studies published in 2011 in the Journal of Environmental Health Perspectives suggest pesticide exposure can harm the developing fetal brain.

If organic produce is out of your budget range, then the suggestions offered herein by the author are rational choices to avoid the poisons that are in nearly everything we find in the market.  Personally, I have gone to "drinking my lunch and dinner" using fruit or carrot juices to which I add organically grown whole food powders mixed in with a dose of liquid minerals.  I add whey protein to my bright green drink, or, when I feel the need for a serving of organic beef or chicken I don't hesitate to prepare a burger or so. Gone as well are all the GMO wheat products and cereal products that kept my body in a constant state of inflammation. I am so much healthier than I have been in a long time, and the excess weight is simply melting off.  

One other thing I may add is this:  "eat in season".  My personal physician suggested that this was the optimal course to avoid many diseases that harbor in the produce that is grown in other countries.  Out of season stuff in stores during the winter months in the Northern Hemisphere.

For a number of years I was using Canola oil in my kitchen.  I wondered why I developed a stomach ache and worse each time I ate any food cooked in that oil.  Deciding that enough was enough, I researched the oil online after reading an article in Natural News some time ago.  In addition to Mike Adams' excellent blog on these topics, I found a host of other articles on these two oils that made me race to my kitchen and pour out the oils remaining there.

Monsanto trying to take over world seed supply, nation by nation

If nothing frightens you, think about this:  as each day passes, more and more foods that you eat are GMO foods.   The foods of the future will ALL be GMO food.  Yummy, think about those viruses, bacteria and other toxins used in bio-engineered food that reside in you, babies and children, right now.  It is nearly impossible to wrap your head around WHY would anyone want to ruin food that was perfectly fine in it's original state as God created it.  

Now, unless it is organically grown from pure, non GMO seeds, the food that you eat  poisons you and creates all sorts of health issues over time.   You have to ask what foods do the bio-engineers and Monsanto executives eat?  If they eat their own bio-engineered foods, then they are attacked by the same toxins in GMO foods as the rest of us.  Is this stupid or what?

Some stories I have read on this topic state that there is a seed bank of natural seeds that is held in a secure place and owned by Monsanto and their cronies.  Fact or fiction, I cannot say.  But, to quote an old saying:  "where there is smoke there is fire".

Roots of Foodborne Illness  Health Threats from Domestic and Imported Produce is something that everyone must take very seriously.  During the past year, spinach and other packaged greens have been found to contain e.coli in samples. They were removed from the market place during the investigation of what causative factors were indicated in the contamination of fresh produce.  

One of the things I do is to dilute a cup of apple cider vinegar in a large bowl of cold water, and soak the produce for 5 minutes or so,  (even organically grown produce) to "detox" it from chemical pesticides, fertilizers and any potential pathogens.  I then drain it, fill the bowl with cold water again and soak the produce for another minute or two. Then I give it a final rinse and place it in a salad spinner to make sure all water is removed before serving either cooked or raw.

Japanese Scientist Creates Meat Using Human Feces.   Anyone willing to bet that it won't be long before American scientists decide to follow suit?   The mere thought of this poop burger makes my skin crawl, and my gut roil with repulsion.  Considering how the food corporations lie to consumers about their food products, one such example: fake blueberries that are made of chemicals that are in your corn flakes, the question becomes:  How will we know if the ground meat or "beef patties" sold in stores or restaurants in the not too distant future is real beef or poop?

If the facts outlined in articles on GMOs aren't enough to give you chills over the "Frankenfoods" we are consuming,  this one will do it.  We are human guinea pigs at the mercy of the food corporations, processors, and bio-engineers of mass destruction.  Meat and poultry have long been exposed as sources of human illnesses due to antibiotic misuse, growth hormones, vaccines, filthy feed and slaughter lots, and cruel practices of caging animals who become so crippled that they can't stand upright.  Those foods are then shipped to markets for consumers, who are kept ignorant of the health risks from eating these contaminated foods.

As this nation becomes more and more demanding in their "need" for grab and go, food corporations find new ways to market their toxic, chemically loaded, dead foods to live people.  How often is the tired excuse that we are too busy to cook, or too frazzled by demands of kids whose schedules are crammed full of activities, used to justify the absence of a home cooked meal?  

Rather than a family gathering around the dinner table where wholesome fresh foods are served, they have become a treat rather than a daily event.  TV commercials woo customers into the notion that eating fast food in the car is the "modern" way of life.  Children have become the "spokespersons" for those media campaigns because the corporations are aware that whatever the kids want, the parents will cave in and buy, regardless of the threat those foods pose to health in both the short and the long term.

Disposable coffee cups, carryout containers filled with cancer-causing agents is not a pleasant thought when starting a day with a chemical loaded  plastic or styrofoam cup of latte. Or, perhaps, the styrofoam container that holds carry out lunch or dinner. The more I research these food issues, the sicker I feel as I realize that we are guinea pigs for corporations who care nothing about consumer health and well being.  Including their own health and that of their families'.  Just about everyone in this country drinks out of styrofoam at some point in time.

The chemical industry was quick to denounce the findings, of course, claiming that there is no significant danger from exposure to these chemicals.
